Lego History
In year 1934, The Lego Group was founded in Denmark. “LEGO” derived from the Danish phrase “leg godt”, which means “play well".
Before the company was founded, the founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen, already started to make wooden toys. These wooden toys which were made before and after the World War II, were very successful in the area. However, he also underwent two devastating fires.
After the war, Ole Kirk introduced the injection moulding machine, and began to produce plastic toys. In year 1953, LEGO officially launched LEGO bricks, and in the following year, it started the development of stackable blocks system.
However, in year 1959, the LEGO factory suffered another fire. The fire led the company to stop all the production and sales of wooden toys and concentrated on the production of plastic building blocks.
In the 1960s, Lego successfully produced the battery-driven LEGO Train and DUPLO which suitable for toddlers. And at the same time, the first LEGOLAND was launched.
In the seventies, mini figures with movable arms and legs were launched;
The Educational Products Department was established in the 1980s.
At this point, LEGO’s production line is also enriched.
