The new Canberra MRT station on the North-South Line (NSL) is set to open on 2 November, announced Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan during a site visit of the station on Monday (20 May).

Situated between Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations, Canberra station is the second station, after Dover on the East-West Line, to be built on existing MRT line.

It will serve upcoming residential developments and existing public housing estates like EastLink I and II @ Canberra as well as Eastwave @ Canberra.

“Over 17,000 households will be within a 10-minute walk of the new Canberra MRT station,” noted the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

“This is expected to save nearby commuters up to 10 minutes in travel time towards the city centre or Jurong East.”

Several analysts PropertyGuru spoke to believe that property prices around the Canberra area will increase over time.

“The completion of Canberra MRT Station will be a boost to properties nearby, prices may see up to 5% increase subject to individual property characteristics”, said Huttons Asia head of research, Lee Sze Teck. 

Christine Sun from OrangeTee and Tie echoed the same sentiment.

To feature five entrances, Canberra station is the first elevated MRT station to offer commuters direct access to city-bound train platform through an elevated link bridge across Canberra Link.

The new station will also have sheltered walkways to nearby bus stops, drop-off and pick-up points as well as over 500 bicycle parking lots.
