Dear HRians
If Sunday is your non-working day but do you know it call Rest day or Off day?
The answer is very simple, under Employment Act section 59 https://www.ilo.org/dyn/natlex/docs/WEBTEXT/48055/66265/E55mys01.htm#c59
“59. Rest day
(1) Every employee shall be allowed in each week a rest day of one whole day as may. be determined from time to time by the employer, and where an employee is allowed more than one rest day in a week the last of such rest days shall be the rest day for the purposes of this Part:”
Then what is the Off Day?
Based on above we can define the off day based on 5 day/week, 5 ½ day/week and 6 day/week, please refer below table
Mon | Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri | Sat | Sun | Total | |
5 days/week | 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 | 9 | Off | Rest | 45 |
5 ½ days/week | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 4 | Rest | 44 |
6 days/week | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 8 | Rest | 48 |
So, if you are work 5 days/week there are 2 day not working, based on Employment act the last day is Rest day so another day should be the Off Day
