What are the support grant given for Singaporean affected by Covid 19?

A grant that helps Singaporeans and permanent residents who lost their jobs or suffered significant income loss due to the pandemic will be extended to the end of this year, but with revised eligibility criteria.

All those who are unemployed and are applying for the CSG must also demonstrate job search or training efforts to qualify for the help. This will helps workers affected by the economic impact of the pandemic acquire job-related skills and capabilities and access expanded employment opportunities.

The COVID-19 Recovery Grant (CRG) provides temporary financial support to workers in lower- to middle-income households who are presently experiencing involuntary job loss, involuntary no-pay leave (NPL) or income loss due to the economic impact of COVID-19.

Types of Available Support Grant for Singaporean

The evolving COVID-19 situation has affected Singaporeans in one way or another, including individuals who are facing loss of income or families that are struggling with additional caregiving duties and additional expenses for essential items.

Available support grant will be based on the following:

  • COVID-19 Recovery Grant
  • The Courage Fund

Application for COVID-19 Recovery Grant (CRG) and The Courage Fund (TCF) can be submitted from 9am to 10pm daily. COVID-19 Recovery Grant applications will close on 31 December 2021.

Support Grant: COVID-19 Recovery Grant

The COVID-19 Recovery Grant (CRG) aims to help Singapore Citizens (SCs) and Permanent Residents (PRs) who, as a result of the economic impact of COVID-19, are:

  1. Presently unemployed due to retrenchment or contract termination; or
  2. Placed on involuntary no-pay leave (NPL) for at least 3 consecutive months; or
  3. Experiencing salary loss of at least 50% on average for at least 3 consecutive months from all jobs as a part-time or full-time employee; or
  4. Experiencing Net Trade Income (NTI) loss of at least 50% on average over three consecutive months compared to average monthly NTI in 2019 or 2020.

The financial support provided by CRG will be as follows:

Up to $700 per month for three months to employees who at the point of application are:

  • Unemployed due to retrenchment or involuntary contract termination; or
  • Placed on involuntary no-pay leave (NPL) for at least three consecutive months.

Up to $500 per month for three months to:

  • Employees who are facing salary loss for at least three consecutive months, with an average loss of at least 50% at the point of application; and
  • SEPs who are facing a loss in their net trade income (NTI) for at least three cosecutive months, with an average loss of at least 50% at the point of application, compared to their average monthly NTI in 2019 or 2020.

The job loss, involuntary NPL, or income loss should have occurred after 23 January 2020, when the first case of COVID-19 was detected in Singapore. Assistance will be credited directly into the successful applicant’s bank account every month for three months, following approval.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome of his/her application via SMS in about 2 weeks, upon submission of all required supporting documents. We expect an initial influx of applications and seek your understanding if the processing time for applications is longer at the beginning of the scheme.

Support Grant: The Courage Fund

The Courage Fund was first established in 2003 when Singapore was hit by the SARS outbreak. Fellow Singaporeans donated generously to the Fund to support those who were affected by the outbreak. In this same spirit of uniting the community to support one another through difficult times, Community Chest* is rallying the community to provide relief and support to those affected by the current COVID-19 situation. 

The Courage Fund will help lower-income households affected by COVID-19 who meet the following criteria:

  1. At least one household member is a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  2. At least one household member contracted COVID-19, or was placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN), mandatory Leave of Absence (LOA) or Home Quarantine Order (QO).
  3. [As of 1 June 2020] Household has gross monthly income of ≤$6,200, or gross monthly per capita income of ≤$2,000, prior to being affected by COVID-19.
  4. Household experienced a complete or partial (of at least 10%) loss of household income as a result of (2).

One-time lump sum of up to $1,000 (depending on the household’s per capita income after being affected by COVID-19), credited into bank account. Please allow 2 – 3 weeks processing time for fund disbursement, upon submission of supporting documents.
