Overtime Calculator Rate For Singapore Workers

Overtime work is classified by all work in excess of the normal hours of work (excluding breaks). Only when the overtime calculator work is approved by the employers will the overtime pay apply.

Overtime Calculator pay is compulsory if an employee is:

  • A non-workman, with a salary level of $2,600 SGD, or an hourly rate of $13.60 SGD
  • A workman, earning up to $4,500 SGD.

According to the Singapore Ministry of Manpower, an employee must be paid at least 1.5 times (their hourly basic rate of pay) for their overtime work. Overtime Calculator payments must also be made within 14 days after the last day of the salary period.

Example:

A non-workman earns $2,600 a month and works 2 hours of overtime. The overtime pay is:
$13.60 x 1.5 x 2 hours = $40.80

Formula Of Overtime Calculator Rate Pay

Overtime Calculator pay is calculated as follows:

  • Hourly basic rate of pay x 1.5 x number of hours worked overtime

The hourly basic rate of pay is calculated as follows:

For this category of employee

Hourly basic rate of pay is

Monthly-rated employee

(12 x Monthly basic rate of pay) / (52 x 44)

Daily-rated employee

Daily pay at the basic rate / Working hours per day

Piece-rated employee

Total weekly pay at the basic rate of pay / Total number of hours worked in the week

Maximum Hours of Overtime Calculator

An employee can only work up to 72 overtime calculator hours in a month. Employers can apply for an exemption if they require employees to work more than the 72 hours of overtime in a month.

Note: These work activities will not be granted exemption.

1) Any work where mental concentration is paramount to ensure safe operations. Examples: Crane operators/Hoist and winch operators/Dredge operators

2) Any work involving continuous and manual operation of machinery. Examples: Operators involved in manual mode operation of drilling, boring, milling, lathe, turning, cutting, punching, press, grinding, polishing, and buffing machines

3) Work activities in extreme thermal conditions / involving continuous changes in working temperatures. Examples: Iron, steel and nonferrous foundries/Brick-firing and ceramics operations/Glass products manufacturing

Formula Of Overtime Calculator During Rest Day

Work on rest day or public holidays is not counted in the 72-hour overtime limit, except for work done beyond the usual daily working hours on those days. Such extra hours are included in the 72-hour limit. Unless work is done beyond the usual daily working hours, otherwise, work on rest day or public holidays is not counted in the 72 hour overtime limit.

Overtime calculator on a rest day or public holiday is calculated as follows:

Overtime Calculator on a rest day or public holiday :

(Hourly basic rate of pay x 1.5 x Number of hours worked overtime) + (Rest day or public holiday pay)

Formula of Overtime Calculator For Part Time Worker

Part-time employees are entitled to pay for overtime calculator work based on whether their hours exceed the normal working hours of a similar full-time employee. As a part-time employee, you are entitled to pay for overtime calculator work. The payment depends on whether your hours exceed the normal working hours of a similar full-time employee.

If hours worked

Overtime pay is calculated

Exceed your daily working hours but less than a full-time employee’s normal hours

At your basic hourly rate of pay

Exceed a full-time employee’s normal hours

At your basic hourly rate x 1.5

Example:

You work 4 hours a day and a full-time employee works 8 hours. Your hourly basic rate of pay is $5. If you work 9 hours in a day, your overtime pay is:

(8 hours x $5) + (1 hour x $5 x 1.5) = $47.50

Formula of Overtime Calculator For Shift Workers

Overtime calculator pay for shift workers is required if:

  1. They worked more than 44 hours over three weeks
  2. Or, they worked more than the contractual working hours per week (this can be less than the 44 hours per week over three weeks).

Below example is provided by Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower.
This is an example on how overtime hours for shift workers can be calculated. The scenario is based on a 44-hours work week.

Week

Total working hours for continuous 3 weeks

Total OT hours for continuous 3 weeks

OT hours already paid in past 2 weeks*

50 + 40 + 46 = 136

136 – (44 × 3) = 4

0 + 0 = 0

4 – 0 = 4

42

40 + 46 + 42 = 128

128 – (44 × 3) → 0

0 + 4 = 4

0 – 4 → 0

5

50

46 + 42 + 50 = 138

138 – (44 × 3) = 6

4 + 0 = 4

6 – 4 = 2

6

45

42 + 50 + 45 = 137

137 – (44 × 3) = 5

0 + 2 = 2

5 – 2 = 3

Can an employer give time off instead of overtime calculator pay?

Employers cannot substitute overtime calculator pay with time off for employees covered under Part IV of the Employment Act. For these employees, overtime must be paid at a rate of at least 1.5 times the hourly basic rate of pay.

For those not covered under Part IV of the Employment Act, the entitlement would depend on the employment contract.

To avoid disputes on overtime pay, employers should clearly communicate their overtime policies and work arrangements, making sure everything complies with the latest legislation updates.
