How does SafeEntry Works with Singpass Mobile App in Singapore?

For those in Singapore who do not have the latest version of the SingPass Mobile app, now’s a good time to do so. It will help greatly in facilitating entry into more than 40,000 malls and buildings using the SafeEntry app.

Developed by Singapore’s Government Technology Agency (GovTech) during the COVID-19 period, SafeEntry has been in use for visitor registration to assist in contact tracing.

The original version required the scanning of a QR code, followed by checking in and filling in personal and contact details. This is already much faster compared to the filling in of paper forms.

Types of SafeEntry System Method

There are three methods to the SafeEntry system.

To ensure correct usage of the system, one should make sure to take note of the following:

  1. Individuals can check-in/out from SafeEntry at entry/exit points by either scanning a QR code with the SingPass mobile app or opting from a list of nearby locations using the ‘SafeEntry Check-In function’.
  2. Have a staff member scan your identification card (must have a barcode). Examples of such cards include NRIC, Passion card, Pioneer Generation card, Merdeka Generation card, driver’s licence, Transitlink concession card, student pass and work permit.
  3. Scan a QR code at the venue with your mobile and submit your personal particulars (your NRIC and contact number).

How Does The SafeEntry System Work?

Depending on the location, up to three check-in methods are available:

  • Scanning QR code with SingPass Mobile to determine your location
  • Scan QR code and fill in personal details
  • Use your NRIC or any official ID with barcode

Step by Step Using Singpass Mobile App in Singapore

Step 1: Launch the SingPass Mobile app
Step 2: Tap on ‘SafeEntry Check-In’ on the app homepage
Step 3: First-time users will be prompted to give consent to enable Location Permissions and then be shown a list of registered locations nearby
Step 4: Select the venue location from the list
Step 5: Tap on ‘Check in’ to confirm
Step 6: Show the SafeEntry Pass to ground staff for entry

Users are reminded to tap on ‘Check out’ when leaving the location. This will help with more comprehensive data which will facilitate the efforts to prevent and control the transmission of COVID-19 through activities such as contract tracing and identification of COVID-19 clusters.

What Happen If Forgot to Clock out?

We encourage all visitors to check out of a venue so that data collected is complete. More comprehensive data which will facilitate the efforts to prevent and control the transmission of COVID-19 through activities such as contract tracing and identification of COVID-19 clusters. Simply tap on the ‘Check out’ button next to the location indicated on the SingPass Mobile homepage. Locations that have not been checked out of for a prolonged duration will be cleared automatically.

Can I check into a location in advance before I have arrived?

Upon tapping on ‘SafeEntry Check-In’ on the app’s home page, only the registered locations within a specific radius from your current location is retrieved. Users are encouraged to only check in when they are about to enter the premises. Accurate and comprehensive data will facilitate the efforts to prevent and control the transmission of COVID-19 through activities such as contract tracing and identification of COVID-19 clusters. 

Why need to enable location permission?

You must give consent for SingPass Mobile to retrieve a list of nearby locations.  You will be prompted to enable Location Permissions for SafeEntry check-ins. Do note that the location data will strictly be used for SafeEntry purposes.
